Malaysian celebrates numerous festive sessions throughout the year. Although Deepavali is associated with Hinduism, it has a universal significance which transcends race and religion. It is also one of the most grandly celebrated fiesta under diversity of ONE Malaysian spirit. It is a time for joy and giving and togetherness. It is a time of remembrance of the Upanishad prayer: “Asato ma sat gamaya, Tamaso ma jyotir gamaya; Mrityor ma amritam gamaya" which means 'Lead us from the unreal to the Real; from darkness to Light; from death to Immortality.'
Light is the most important of the Deepavali symbols. Light brings warmth and illumination. As light dispels darkness, so should knowledge dispel ignorance. May all of us withdraw the senses and fix the mind on this self-luminous light in order to enjoy the real Deepavali.
